In general, if I'm using Google maps, I'll either let the phone play the audio, or make sure I'm streaming Pandora/Prime Music/etc. Hope that helps! Mine is working on my 2016 over speakers great. Under Google Maps appSettings / Navigation Settings / Play voice over Bluetooth ON -- Play as Bluetooth Phone call OFF.
The navigation system helps you find your way to your destination with the built-in GPS receiver, however, the Scion navigation system does not transmit your GPS position and others cannot track you. When first using the application, you have the opportunity to accept collection of usage information and GPS logs that may be used for improving Then purposely not follow the map guidance so the map alerts you. When the alert comes on, it interrupts the music and it glitches the headunit. From there, your music completely goes dead and give it a minute or two and your screen will go black. the only way to fix this is to turn it off and back on.
You have to use android auto/carplay to use google maps. And you're right about the Toyota maps being garbage. We drove rte 66 in out '21 and the maps directed us down roads that didn't exist showed us to be going cross-country while on paved highways. Always good to have a backup map system.

I'm looking at getting into an XLE Hybrid with all options (Weather, Convenience, and Audio Plus) and was wondering if the Android Auto works the same on the RAV4 as it does on our 2018 Tiguan.
